Trailing drawdown calculator

More funded accounts die to the trailing drawdown than to any other rule — usually while the trader is still up on the week. Type in your daily results and see exactly where the line sits after each day.

Your days

Enter each day's closed P&L. On intraday mode, also enter the best unrealised spike you saw that day — that is what actually moves the line.

How trailing drawdown actually works

What is a trailing drawdown?

A moving loss limit that follows your highest balance upward but never moves back down. On a $50,000 account with a $2,000 trailing drawdown, your limit starts at $48,000. Reach $52,000 and the limit rises to $50,000. Give that profit back and the limit stays at $50,000 — which is why traders blow accounts while still showing a profit for the week.

Intraday vs end of day — why it matters more than the dollar figure

An intraday trailing drawdown follows your highest balance in real time, including unrealised profit on open trades. A trade that goes $1,000 in your favour and comes back to breakeven has already ratcheted your limit up $1,000 — you gained nothing and lost a thousand dollars of room.

An end-of-day drawdown is recalculated once, at the close, on your closed balance. Intraday swings never touch it. For the same dollar figure, end-of-day is materially more forgiving — which is why two accounts advertising "$2,000 drawdown" can be completely different products.

When does it stop trailing?

Most firms freeze it once the line reaches your starting balance, so it can never rise above breakeven. Apex stop trailing when the threshold reaches your profit target. Lucid lock it at starting balance + $100. Always confirm the lock point for your own account — it changes how much room you have late in an evaluation.
