LucidPro vs Topstep — Same $3,000 Target, Very Different Rules
Both firms sell a 50K futures account with a $3,000 profit target. That is where the similarity ends — and the difference decides how fast you can get funded.
The headline difference
LucidPro has no consistency rule during evaluation. Topstep does.
That single fact changes everything:
| Topstep Combine 50K | LucidPro 50K | |
|---|---|---|
| Profit target | $3,000 | $3,000 |
| Consistency rule | Best day ≤ 50% of target | None in evaluation |
| Fastest possible pass | 2 days ($1,500 + $1,500) | 1 day (single $3,000 day) |
| Max loss limit | $2,000, end-of-day trailing | $2,000, end-of-day trailing |
| Daily loss limit | Optional at checkout | $1,200 (soft breach) |
| Max size | 5 minis / 50 micros | 4 minis / 40 micros |
What "soft breach" means
Lucid's daily loss limit is a soft breach — hit it and you're locked out until the next session, but the account survives. Topstep's optional DLL behaves the same way. Neither ends your evaluation.
What *does* end it at both firms is the trailing maximum loss limit. That's the only hard fail in either evaluation, and it trails your end-of-day closing balance upward without ever moving back down.
The catch with LucidPro
No consistency rule in evaluation does not mean no consistency rule ever. Once you're funded, LucidPro applies a 40% rule to payout cycles: your largest single day must be no more than 40% of the profit in that cycle.
So the speed advantage is real, but it's front-loaded. You pass faster; you then face a stricter payout rule than you did during the eval.
Topstep's funded stage asks for either 5 winning days of $150+, or 3 days with your best day at 40% or less of total profit.
Which should you choose?
Neither is universally better — it depends on how you trade:
- You can produce one strong day and want funded fast → LucidPro
- You grind consistent smaller days → Topstep, where the consistency rule works with your style instead of against it
- You hate daily loss limits → LucidFlex has none at any account size
